Due to their parents ´travelling vocational training for showmen ´s children and for young showmen faces constant changes. Right from the beginning these young people are integrated in the family business and contribute to the business success. Their vocational training is traditionally dominated by the principle "learning by doing" in the family business. However, today professional know-how in technical and commercial subjects determines,-as well in the fairground business, whether a company will be successful or not. But so far throughout Europe there is a lack of appropriate instruction opportunities in the vocational area for young people from showmen ´s families.
Basically the project uses results and findings of two previous projects. The project "Bekosch- Developing professional skills for occupational travelers through classroom periods" (EU –Programme Leonardo da Vinci/1999-2000) was the foundation to enable young people from showmen families to attend vocational training classes in the winter months when they do not travel.
On this basis the vocational college of economics and management in Herne applied for the EU –Minerva Project "eLvet -- eLearning for vocational education of travelers" and coordinates that the already well- established long term courses in the winter months will be supplemented by a target group oriented e-learning period during the travelling period in the summer months.
The self-contained concept of professional qualification, which young showmen in Germany have already accepted and demanded as an opportunity of professional training is now to be introduce by the participating educational institutions to the partner countries.
ETT EDU makes the diverse skills which young showmen acquire within the family network transparent. Furthermore these skills are to be complemented by qualifications with professional relevance within a concept of lifelong learning. Within the project this sustainable learning system of vocational and further education should be transferred and further developed.
The target group of this project are young people from fairground and circus families from the participating countries Germany, the Netherlands, France and the United Kingdom.
The vocational college Herne will coordinate ETT EDU.
The constitution of partner circles in which the performing educational institutions are brought together with politically responsible institutions, with academics and particularly, with reference to the target group showmen, the extremely relevant associations will guarantee that the project is sustainable.
